ANTIOCH, Calif. – An 11-year-old girl was shot in the head while sitting in a car at an Antioch apartment complex on Monday afternoon, authorities reported.
The shooting took place around 12:38 p.m. in the parking lot of the Delta View Apartments, located at 3915 Delta Fair Boulevard.
Police stated that the girl was in the passenger seat of her family’s car as it was leaving the complex when gunfire struck her in the head.
After the shooting, the vehicle drove to a nearby shopping center parking lot. Multiple 911 callers reported the vehicle’s location, which helped officers find it.
Officers provided first aid to the girl until firefighters arrived, according to police.
The girl was taken to Children’s Hospital Oakland, where she is listed in stable condition.
The Antioch Police Department said in a news release, “At this stage of the investigation, the family does not appear to have been the intended targets.”
Authorities have not shared details about what led to the shooting or information about a possible suspect.
