9-Year-Old Boy Recovering After Alleged Shooting by Friend
A 9-year-old boy is recovering in Louisiana a month after his 10-year-old friend allegedly shot him “on purpose.”
The boy’s mother, Lakisha Ledguies, told KALB that her son Tre’Michael was spending time with his friend at a home in Alexandria on December 6 when the older boy shot him.
The Alexandria Police Department initially said the shooting appeared to be “accidental.” However, when Tre’Michael was able to speak, Ledguies said her son told her his friend “shot me on purpose.”
The older boy has been charged with aggravated second-degree battery and juvenile in possession of a handgun. He has been placed in the Renaissance Home for Youth. His identity is not being released because of his age.
Police have not disclosed where the boy obtained the gun used in the shooting.
The boy’s uncle set up a GoFundMe to help cover his hospital costs. He stated that Tre’Michael “lost his right kidney, half of his left lung, and his intestines were shattered by the bullet.”
Tre’Michael was released from the hospital just before Christmas to continue his recovery at home, according to his uncle, Courtney Blake.
