Chicago Man Pleads Guilty to Residential Burglary
A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to residential burglary. He is accused of squatting in homes in the south suburbs.
Chicago police caught Lashawn Rankine moving into a home in Evergreen Park that was for sale. Officials stated that Rankine made a fraudulent lease agreement for the same property to defraud the owner.
Rankine has been mentioned in three alleged squatting cases. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years of probation last week.
He was ordered to pay restitution of $624. Rankine must get permission to leave Illinois and cannot possess a firearm.
The victim expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, stating, “he only gets a slap on the wrist.”
