Chicago Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime on North Side

Chicago police are looking into an incident on the North Side as a possible hate crime.

According to CPD, a 27-year-old man was walking in the 3100-block of North Broadway in Lakeview just before 2:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day. He got into a verbal altercation with two suspects.

The suspects assaulted the man and pushed him into the glass window of The Bagel Restaurant and Deli, police reported.

The man suffered a cut on his hand and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.

The suspects fled the scene heading north.

Currently, there are no arrests, and Area Three detectives are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

CPD has not provided further details on why they are treating the incident as a hate crime.
