City Cites Abandoned Business After Man Found Dead

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The city’s Public Works department has cited an abandoned business in southwest Houston where a man was found dead last week.

Family members report that 25-year-old JaDarious Roberts was discovered at an old Wells Fargo building on Hillcroft, between Richmond and Westheimer, on January 2. He was wrapped in a tarp.

“It’s shattering, it’s life-altering,” said his aunt, Sharon Johnson. “I just want to say my heart goes out to all mothers that have lost a child.”

Houston police stated that Roberts had been shot and mentioned there is “a very good possibility” he was killed elsewhere and brought to the site.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Complaints and Violations at the Building

Records indicate that there have been 27 complaints filed with the city about the building since Wells Fargo vacated in September 2023. Most complaints are related to standing water, but some involve squatting, dating back to February 2024.

Houston Public Works has cited the building for stagnant water and graffiti.

“He deserves justice,” Johnson said. “Nobody deserves to die like that.”
