Fort Worth police are probing a series of suspicious vehicle arsons near Fox Run Park, with multiple fires reported between December 26 and New Year’s Eve, causing concern among residents.
Fort Worth Police Investigate Vehicle Fires
FORT WORTH, Texas – Fort Worth police are investigating several vehicle fires that occurred in one neighborhood over the past week.
Michelle Barrera described the night of December 27th when her son’s car caught fire outside their home for no apparent reason.
This incident is part of what Fort Worth arson investigators call a series of suspicious vehicle fires. These fires are on the city’s southwest side, with some cars containing chemical components that make the fires more dangerous.
Neighbors reported that the fires happened between December 26th and New Year’s Eve in areas near Fox Run Park.
“My husband and my son-in-law were in the garage, and they saw a fire through the window. And I heard a big bang,” said Barrera.
“We were out here for several hours. The car blew up probably about two times, and it had magnesium in it, so there were a lot of sparks,” she added.
Fort Worth fire officials have not spoken on camera about the cases. However, they confirmed multiple suspicious vehicle fires in the area appear to be linked. Arson investigators and Fort Worth police are focused on determining how each fire started and identifying possible suspects.
“The fire department said that it was arson because ours was the second one that had happened. There have already been five in the neighborhood. One happened on Christmas Day, and it has been happening ever since,” Barrera stated.
“We are worried about it happening to our other vehicles. The police say to make sure that your doors are locked. If anyone has cameras, they should check them or consider installing cameras,” she continued.
Meanwhile, neighbors and families like Michelle Barrera’s are left stunned and shaken.
“We’re all trying to get together and check our cameras to figure this out. We’ve shared information on the NextDoor app,” she said.
