John Viola’s Service in Haverford Township
HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — John Viola holds multiple roles in Haverford Township. He is the Police Chief and recently completed over 40 years as Fire Chief.
Viola joined the Brookline Fire Company as a teenager in 1967. Throughout his career, he responded to many fires. He once rescued a baby girl from a second-story window and received a medal of valor for this act.
Viola believes that any member of his company would have done the same in that situation.
In December, the Haverford Township Board of Commissioners honored him with a proclamation for his years of volunteer service.
For the first time in 40 years, Steven Poole, a longtime firefighter, has taken over as the new chief of the fire company.
