A man allegedly shot his wife in front of their children in Indianapolis after she filed a restraining order, police say
Husband Charged with Murdering Wife in Front of Children
Cecil Mains, 47, has been charged with murdering his wife, Jerri Mains, 44, in their Indianapolis home on December 28. This incident occurred just days after Jerri kicked him out and obtained a restraining order.
Details of the Incident
Police reported that the couple’s children, ages 19, 17, 14, and 10, called 911 during the shooting. One child pleaded for help, saying, “My dad is shooting my mom” and “I can’t live without her.”
Another child stated in a separate call, “My dad just shot my mom twice… He shot her in the house and in the driveway.”
Jerri was found in the driveway and later died in the hospital after being shot twice in the chest.
Background Information
The alleged murder followed Jerri discovering Cecil’s infidelity. She filed a protection order on Christmas Day after he reportedly assaulted her with kitchen tongs and threatened her life.
Days after being removed from the home, Cecil allegedly returned, retrieved a locked gun, and shot Jerri.
Aftermath and Charges
After the shooting, Cecil fled in his pickup truck but was arrested nearby during a traffic stop. He was charged with murder on Tuesday.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed concern for Jerri’s children, stating, “The facts of this case are devastating.”
Tribute to Jerri Mains
Jerri was remembered in her obituary as the “most devoted mother.” The tribute highlighted her love for her children, stating, “She loved her children so much that in everything that she did, she put her children’s consideration first.”
