A new video has emerged showing an attempted immigration detention in Downey. This comes as tensions remain high across the country after a deadly ICE shooting in Minneapolis. Several local demonstrations took place over the weekend.

The footage, captured by a bystander, shows the incident occurring Saturday morning near Benares Street and Ryerson Avenue. Witnesses report that two landscapers were confronted and grabbed by individuals who appeared to be immigration agents as they attempted to take them into custody. Neighbors began to gather, prompting the agents to release the landscapers and drive away.

In the video, an agent inside a car was seen pointing a gas canister at people filming the incident. Neighbors stated that one landscaper has a green card and has lived in the U.S. for 40 years. The other landscaper had a valid work permit, which he was carrying at the time.

This incident was one of several involving immigration agents reported in Downey over the weekend. Another incident was captured on video in a Home Depot parking lot.

The protest drew many into the streets, eventually becoming chaotic as LAPD officers in riot gear faced off with demonstrators near the Federal Building. The LAPD reported one person was detained on suspicion of battery against a police officer.
