Disorderly Incident at Staten Island Church

Parishioners attended a peaceful morning mass at St. Ann’s in Dongan Hills on Friday, but the situation quickly escalated.

Police responded to a 911 call about a disorderly man inside the church. The man fell on the altar after being tased by police. The priest had to duck out of the way, ending his sermon before it started.

The two officers attempted to remove the man, but handcuffing him proved difficult. Flowers were knocked over during the struggle on the altar.

As police tried to subdue the man, he yelled and resisted, kicking at the officers. Eventually, he broke free and began throwing punches at them.

Police managed to gain control of the man and take him into custody. His identity has not been released, and he is not a parishioner.

Charges are pending as he is currently in the hospital for evaluation. Two officers sustained minor injuries, and the church altar suffered minor damage.
