A Brooklyn man was arrested this week for allegedly attacking a 71-year-old man with a shovel. This incident occurred just days after he reportedly stole ribeye steak from a local supermarket.
Details of the Assault
Sean P. Abt, 24, was arrested on Tuesday evening. He faces assault charges related to the random attack on December 27. The incident took place at Stryker Court and West 1 Street in Gravesend, according to police.
The shovel attack happened during a post-Christmas storm that brought about four inches of snow to New York City.
The victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital and is currently in stable condition, police reported.
Shoplifting Incident
Abt, who lives in Sheepshead Bay, was also charged on Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting from Stop & Shop. This incident occurred on December 23 at the store on Avenue Y near East 17th Street.
He reportedly stole ribeye steak and other beef products from the supermarket.
Criminal Record
According to police, Abt has no other arrests on his record aside from these recent incidents. His arraignments for both cases were pending as of Wednesday.
