A Louisiana jury convicted Larry Darby of raping a family member in Caddo Parish, causing pregnancy and permanent injuries including tooth loss
Man Convicted of Rape and Incest in Louisiana
A jury has convicted a man of raping and impregnating a female family member in a years-long pattern of abuse. Prosecutors said the abuse left the victim permanently injured, including the loss of all her upper teeth.
| Defendant | Age | Charges | Sentencing Date | Potential Sentence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Larry Darby | 61 | Aggravated rape, two counts of aggravated incest, sexual battery | January 27 | Life plus up to 50 years |
Larry Darby, 61, was found guilty at Caddo District Court in Louisiana. He faces a mandatory life sentence for the rape conviction and up to an additional 50 years in prison when he is sentenced on January 27, Judge Chris Victory said.
Jurors heard testimony that Darby repeatedly sexually assaulted the victim between 2003 and 2009. The abuse began when she was about 12 years old and continued for years, resulting in serious physical injuries, prosecutors said.
The victim testified that Darby beat and strangled her when she resisted. This caused extensive damage to her teeth and left permanent scars on her neck. She said the assaults ultimately resulted in her becoming pregnant and being forced to carry and give birth to his child.
DNA evidence presented at trial confirmed Darby was the father of the child. This was a key factor that allowed the case to move forward after an earlier investigation stalled in 2005. The case was reopened years later when additional corroborating evidence became available, KSLA reports.
Darby was previously convicted in Texas in 2022 for assaulting a stepchild. Prosecutors introduced that conviction at trial to show a pattern of abuse involving children.
Caddo Parish District Attorney James E. Stewart Sr. said in a statement: “This verdict affirms what the victim has known for years. While time passed, the truth did not change.”
Darby lived in Caddo Parish at the time of the offenses and later lived in Bossier City before moving to Texas, court records show.
In addition to the life sentence he faces for aggravated rape, Darby could receive up to 20 years at hard labor for each aggravated incest conviction and up to 10 years for sexual battery.
Assistant District Attorneys Ron Christopher Stamps and Britney A. Green prosecuted the case. Darby was represented by defense attorney John Bokenfohr.
Prosecutors said the verdict reflects the jury’s careful review of the evidence and the victim’s willingness to testify about abuse that occurred years earlier.
