Nick Reiner Removed from Suicide Watch

Nick Reiner has been taken off suicide watch. He is in custody on two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, according to People magazine.

The magazine cited an unnamed source from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. This department operates the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. The 32-year-old Reiner is being held without bail before his arraignment on Wednesday.

Court Appearances and Legal Proceedings

Nick Reiner made his first court appearance on December 17. He did not enter a plea and appeared from behind glass in a custody area. His arraignment was postponed to January 7 at his attorney’s request. He only said “yes, your honor” to agree to the new date.

After the December court hearing, Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, called the case “a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Rob Reiner family.” He stated that the proceedings will be complex and asked for careful consideration, avoiding a rush to judgment.

Jackson did not answer questions from reporters and has not discussed his client’s guilt or innocence.

Details of the Case

Nick Reiner is charged with killing Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70. They were killed in the early morning hours of December 14. Their bodies were found later that afternoon in their home in Brentwood.

Police said Nick Reiner did not resist arrest hours later in the Exposition Park area near USC, about 14 miles from the crime scene.

The charges include special circumstances of multiple murders and an allegation of using a dangerous weapon, a knife. These factors could lead to a greater sentence.

Tribute to Rob Reiner

During the Critics Choice Awards on Monday, comedian Chelsea Handler paid tribute to Rob Reiner. She said, “Everyone in this room knows that the nicest guy in Hollywood was Rob Reiner.” Handler added that he made everyone feel like an old friend and was always present and focused in conversations.
