Parents of Missing Oklahoma Boy in Custody

The parents of a missing 12-year-old boy in Oklahoma are in custody on child abuse charges. This comes a week after the child was last seen.

Details of the Disappearance

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has described Ryan Davis’ disappearance as “suspicious.” He vanished on January 2, last seen in a community 40 miles south of Oklahoma City. Authorities stated he had been staying in a hotel with his family.

Arrests Made

On January 7, officials announced that Davis’ mother, Kimberly Cole, 33, and his stepfather, George Cole, 43, were in custody. They face charges including child abuse and child sexual abuse. One charge against Kimberly Cole is for “crime against nature.”

Safety Concerns

In announcing the arrests, OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee described the Cole’s home as “not safe” for Davis, who also goes by RJ and Ryker. McKee stated, “This is extremely sad. This is a horrific case so far for everybody involved.”

Search Efforts

Last week, a $5,000 reward was offered for anyone who could “confirm RJ’s location, leading to his safe return.” McKee mentioned, “We’re still receiving several tips, we’re still following up on those tips, but the boy has not been found. We do believe he is alive at this time.” A multi-agency search operation is underway, involving drones, dogs, and water searches.

Community Involvement

McKee expressed urgency, saying, “It’s getting to a point where it is scary. Time is of the essence. We have to find this child.” He also noted that Davis has run away in the past. He asked anyone with surveillance cameras in the Chickasha area to check the footage for any trace of the missing child.

Chief’s Statement

Chickasha Chief Goebel Music stated, “All we want to do is lay eyes on this child, get him the medical care that he needs, and assure him, physically and emotionally, he will not be returning back to that environment.” He confirmed that under no circumstances will Davis return to live with his parents.

Public Appeal

Before her arrest, Kimberly Cole thanked those searching for her son in an interview with ABC’s Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. She said, “We just want our son back home, we want him back.”

Previous Incidents

According to Kimberly Cole’s Facebook page, Davis last went missing on December 17. It is unclear when he was found in that instance. A member of George Cole’s family has received a restraining order against him and Kimberly Cole, reports The Oklahoman.

Search Area

Over the weekend, search parties focused on Lake Burtschi in Grady County. A volunteer, Kent Jones, used his drone over the lake to assist in the search. He noted, “RJ really knows good camping skills and maybe camping out somewhere.”

Signs of Hope

One sign posted near the lake read: “RJ. This is a safe place. Plz come to our home.”

Physical Description

Davis is 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 85 pounds. When last seen, he wore a red-and-black plaid shirt, dark jeans, and brown steel-toe boots.
