K-9 Ghost Recovers After Incident in Harris County

HOUSTON – A Harris County K-9 is recovering after an incident on Monday, according to authorities.

Details of the Incident

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that K-9 Ghost was injured while helping to pursue 21-year-old Bryan Crofton. Crofton was wanted for active felony warrants.

Officials stated they were in the area of Lockwood Drive and Antha Street when they spotted Crofton.

He later crashed his vehicle in a ditch and fled on foot towards a pond.

K-9 Ghost’s Role

K-9 Handler Deputy Almeida and Ghost pursued Crofton into a wooded pond area. Ghost successfully bit Crofton, who allegedly tried to drown K-9 Ghost while fleeing. Deputies entered the water to help detain Crofton.

Medical Treatment

Crofton was taken to a hospital for medical care for the bite injury.

K-9 Ghost received immediate treatment and was taken to a veterinary clinic for precautionary reasons, officials said.

Gonzalez mentioned in a social media post that Ghost is expected to be OK.

Charges Against Crofton

Officials noted that Crofton had open warrants for Injury to a Child and Interfering with 911 Services. New charges will include evading and interfering with a service animal.
