Knife Attack on Train at Grand Central
A knife-wielding woman stabbed another woman in the face during a clash on a train arriving at Grand Central on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The victim, a 57-year-old woman, was on a Brooklyn-bound No. 4 train near the 42nd Street Midtown hub at around 2:10 p.m. when she had a dispute with the attacker, who appeared to be much younger.
The younger woman, a stranger to the victim, then stabbed her on the right side of the face, authorities reported.
An MTA worker called 911. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition, according to police.
The alleged assailant is described as a woman in her 20s, last seen wearing gray pants and a red or burgundy jacket. She fled the scene, authorities said.
No arrests had been made by Wednesday morning, and the reason for the dispute remains unclear.
This attack occurred days after a 29-year-old medical student from Russia allegedly shoved a 72-year-old man into a moving Bronx train in an unprovoked attack on New Year’s Day, just hours after the ball drop, according to police and sources.
During a press conference on Tuesday, city officials announced a 4% drop in major subway crime in 2025 compared to 2024. They reported a 12.5% decrease in robberies, marking an all-time low, and a 62.5% drop in shootings.
